Supernatural full-cast audio drama series The Omega Factor is making a welcome return on the eve of Halloween with The House That Wasn’t Haunted.  

Based on the BBC Scottish television series created by Jack Gerson, Big Finish has developed the legacy of the mysterious Department 7, a government agency dedicated to investigating the unknown, with the original series’ lead Louise Jameson reprising her starring role as Dr Anne Reynolds. This new two-hour tale has been written by Tim Foley.

Adam Crane has put his time with Department 7 behind him and now channels his energies into his paranormal podcast series, ‘Unspooked’. 

Anne Reynolds, meanwhile, must invade her former colleague’s new life for some help on an urgent case… one which Adam is uniquely gifted to investigate.  

A powerful psychic force resides within an abandoned manor, Hawthorne House, and a terrible secret dwells in its impenetrable darkness. MI5 need Department 7 to find out what it is. But some secrets can kill… 

Guest stars in this feature-length audio are Philip Hurd-Wood, Selina Cadell and Reice Weathers.  

Writer Tim Foley said: “We’re picking up with Adam and Anne many years after the last story. They both have their separate lives, but Anne needs Adam’s help one last time. There’s an unusual property that’s key to the future of Department 7. 

“It’s absolutely about the relationship between Anne and Adam. Louise Jameson and John Dorney are phenomenal together. I remember one brief exchange where they’re discussing what fish and chips to get, and even there they are electric – there’s an ease and a familiarity in the way they bounce off each other. That chemistry is key.” 

Producer David Richardson added: “Tim is just a genius. I asked him to pitch a storyline and he came up with the most audacious concept – the only house that isn’t haunted. But the reason why it isn’t haunted is the scariest reason of all. His script is immaculate and rich and terrifying and perfect. We all loved it.” 

This release marks the first Big Finish ‘audio movie’ which David defined as follows: “For me it means you can turn off the lights but still see the cinematic pictures. If we’ve done our work properly, it’s a fully immersive experience for the senses. An audio movie should propel you totally into the story world and never let up.”
