Mondays are when everything changes, and Torchwood One is ready
The London branch of Earth’s defenders returns in a new box set of full-cast audio adventures, released today from Big Finish Productions.
There’s trouble in store for the planet, and for Yvonne Hartman (Tracy-Ann Oberman), the leader of Torchwood One first seen in the Doctor Who TV episode Army of Ghosts. By her side are loyal PA Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd) and long-standing research head Tommy Pierce (Timothy Bentinck).
In three brand-new stories, the team face three of the toughest Mondays ever – from psychic plasma interrupting a dinner party to a royal liaison getting in the way of stopping an invasion. All in a day’s work for Torchwood agents!
Torchwood One: I Hate Mondays is now available to buy as a collector's edition CD box set and digital download (at £22.99) or digital download only (at £18.99) exclusively here.
The three episodes in this box set are:
Dinner for Yvonne by James Goss, from a story by James Goss and Joseph Lidster
A cloud of psychic plasma is sweeping over Salisbury Plain towards London. Unfortunately, it’s Yvonne’s night off and she’s throwing a dinner party. Will London perish before she can serve the artisanal cheese board?
By Royal Appointment by James Goss
Poppy Greenleaf finds herself appointed the Crown’s royal liaison for Torchwood. What is Torchwood? Who is Yvonne Hartman? Why is the world ending? Poppy finds herself lost in a world of alien invasions, international espionage and intergalactic diplomacy.
Nerves by Joseph Lidster
Another Monday morning, another mission for Torchwood. Ianto and Tommy have to transport a canister of deadly Euphorian nerve agent to an underground bunker in the South Downs. It should be an easy straight-forward job but other forces are gathering…
The guest cast of I Hate Mondays includes Isabella Pappas (Finding Alice), Shai Matheson (Jessy and Nessy), Lu Corfield (Last Tango in Halifax) and Anniwaa Buachie (Phoenix Rise).
The box set also features a score by composer Blair Mowat, who was recently BAFTA-nominated for his work on Russell T Davies’ ITV series Nolly.
Producer James Goss said: “Torchwood One knows how awful work is, how terrible your colleagues are, how no-one ever seems to get anything done. But, despite the meetings, the stationery orders and the alien death machines, someone’s got to save the human race.
“Which is why Yvonne Hartman exists. Helped by her PA Ianto and hindered by her head of research Tommy, she’s the last person standing between the planet Earth and total annihilation. She’s amazing, and she’s terrifying.
“You don’t need to know anything about Torchwood One or even Torchwood. These are people you’ll recognise from your workplace. Their problems are just a bit weirder than yours.”
Actor Tracy-Ann Oberman added: “I love Yvonne. I don’t think of her as a villain. I’ve always maintained, having lived with this character and Big Finish now, as the world goes from trauma to more trauma, that Yvonne should be running the whole thing – firm but fair, a benevolent tyrant, with a moral code.”
And Gareth David-Lloyd explained Ianto’s role in the box set: “He is trying to keep everything together, like he always does. Dinner for Yvonne is probably the most terrifying mission he’s been on – interrupting Yvonne on her day off is one of the scariest things he’s ever had to do!
"He’s also got a lot going on – this one’s a tough one for Ianto. He goes through quite a disarmament.”
The above prices include the special pre-order discount and are subject to change after general release.
Torchwood contains adult material and may not be suitable for younger listeners.
